Interview Series: David Mederrick
We are continuing our new weekly series where I feature a client, strategic partner, or fellow BNI or Catalyst Club network partner.
In this blog and newsletter series we will get “up close and personal” with business owners who are doing great things. We will explore what inspires them and how they overcome daily challenges as they grow financially, emotionally, physically, spiritually and socially.
My intention is that you will be able to see your greatness in their stories and find inspiration and hope to never, ever give up. Your light is needed to heal our world whether you are a butcher, baker, or candlestick maker.

Q: When did you decide that you wanted to run your own business?
A: Running my own business was always a goal of mine. There are few things as challenging and exciting as starting a business from scratch and seeing the hard work, dedication and ideas come to fruition.
Q: Why this business?
A: With background checks being increasingly important, I saw a need for a service that delivers the information and ease of access provided by large companies, with the personal service, support and consultation provided by independent ones. On a personal level, it was an opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives – giving people protection and peace of mind whether it’s an employee being a part of your business, a tenant living in your building, a nanny taking care of your kids, or a contractor you are sending into people’s homes. And this business continually challenges me and keeps me on my toes as it is more important than ever to stay on top of the industry’s federal and state regulations in order protect not only my clients, but the rights of their employees and tenants.
Q: What has been your biggest challenge and what steps did you take to overcome it?
A: As a relatively young, small business, we lack the marketing budget of larger competitors.A big way I overcome this and grow the business is through word of mouth from happy clients. Referrals are everything, so I make it a priority to over service clients and network as much as possible to develop new ones.
Q: Who in your life do you credit as helping you be the person you are today?
A: My dad is an old school, self-made man who taught me that hard work and education are keys to success. Growing up I witnessed first hand that if you’re fair, treat people the right way, and don’t cut corners, you’ll have a great opportunity to do well.
Q: What do you want your fellow business owners to know that will inspire them to Never Give Up?
A: Remember that it is a process. And at times, running your own business can feel a bit overwhelming. But if your heart is in it. If you care and believe in what you’re doing – I truly believe positive results will follow.
